HSEELB WY MTC-EE Pinches Finger Between Two Joints of Pipe

WHAT HAPPENED:  EMPLOYEE PINCHES FINGER BETWEEN TWO JOINTS OF PIPE. The drill crew was attempting to lay down a joint of heavy weight drill pipe that was full of ice in order to thaw it out.  The pipe was lifted out of the mouse hole via the air tugger and the bottom end placed on the automatic catwalk trolley.  A tail rope was being used to control the pipe.  As the pipe was being lowered to the trolley it hung up and slipped out over the right edge of the trolley causing the pipe to swing to the right. The injured employee reached out to guide the pipe but his right pinky finger became caught between the heavy weight drill pipe and a stand of drill pipe on the driller’s side racking board resulting in a laceration (three stitches) and fractured finger tip.
